Description
This driveway led from Diagonal Rd (in the foreground) to the stables of Warracowie. It was closer to the intersection of Diagonal and Morphett Rds than the other route to the stables, known as the “bridle path”, whose route was later reflected in the curve of Milham St. Warracowie was the property of George Henry Hamilton and Ellen (nee Glover) and occupied the triangle bounded by Diagonal Rd, Morphett Rd and what became the Marion Shopping Centre in the 1960s. Warracowie was demolished by the City of Marion in November 1997 to make way for the Marion Cultural Centre. Don Chapman of the City of Marion photographed photos owned by Rhonda Woodward. The negatives are also in the Marion Heritage Research collection. This copy was printed from negative 17. Unknown

Description
This photograph shows the winery and vines established by the Hamilton family on Section 176. The road crossing from left to right is (in 2012) Morphett Road and the road running diagonally across the top left corner is Oaklands Road. The buildings in the foreground include the homestead, winery and distillery. A lot of information about the Hamilton family and winery is in Alison Dolling’s History of Marion on the Sturt. Much of the land shown in this photograph was acquired by the State Government to build Glengowrie High School, which opened in 1968 and closed in 1989, after which the land was developed as a retirement estate.
