Cover image for Monash Playground closed to the Public, 1993
Description
Closed and fenced Monash Playground. Once the district Council of Berri had officially closed the playground to the public, a high mesh fence was erected to enclose the playground and a closed sign hung. The playground was built by Grant Telfer, local engineer. It was begun in the 1960's with Grant doing most of the work himself, much made from scrap metal and spread over a couple of acres of land. Thousands of visitors from all over Australia visited the playground each year, both adults and children. Much of the play equipment was made from scrap metal, was cleverly designed and offered something different to your average children’s playground. Despite its immense popularity the park was closed in 1992 mostly due to litigation and was replaced by then District Council of Berri with more modern equipment to become the Monash Adventure Park.
