Description
Article from West Torrens Historian Vol 4 #1 Apr 2012
An article describing how Barcoo Road, West Beach, got its name. The road, which led off Military Road when the Holdfast Sailing Club was established in 1958 and the Sea Rescue Squadron in 1960, was unnamed until the mid-1980s. In the early 1990s, the West Torrens council took over responsibility from the West Beach Trust. The road is named for the HMAS Barcoo, which ran aground near the site during a storm in 1948. The Royal Australian Navy called in a firm who salvaged the vessel. The article contains two black and white photographs and one colour photograph.
